We covered the Defensive Mentality Checklist. Using a video edit of Fredie Williams, we illustrated the energy and the mentality that it takes to play in the bubble and change the game defensively. We also discussed the importance of setting goals, and devising a plan.

An edit featuring former Texas Longhorn Fredie Williams, one of the most tireless defenders who ever played at Texas. Fredie was 5-10 and was able to play Division 1 College Basketball mostly due to his defensive abilities.
Take note of:
- IN THE BUBBLE: Fredie is always within hand-shaking distance while guarding his man with the ball.
- PAINTS THE FLOOR WITH HIS FEET: Take note of how active and energetic Fredie is both on the ball and off the ball.
- GETTING F.A.T.: Take note of how Fredie jabs and recovers on defense to and Fakes and Threatens both on the ball and away from the ball to disrupt timing and negatively impact decision-making.

Although we did not get a chance to share this visual, we wanted to share it now so that players understand what it takes to be a Level 4 Defender. This is a sheet you can use to evaluate what type of defender you are. You can also use it to evaluate your team defense as well.

- 3-2-1- Shooting
- Closeout shooting drill with an emphasis on BEING SHOT-READY.
- Freeze your Follow Thru / Itchy Fingers / Greedy Receiver
- Always incorporate weak-hand drives off of your C-Rip Series.
- 1-ON-1 FACE UP
- SKILLS REVIEWED:
- CREATE A LEAD –> Get Open by V-Cutting and posting up with a target hand.
- GRAB N PEEK –> Face up to the basket with your shooting foot.
- C-RIP SERIES –> Use your C-Rips to move the defense and create a LINE OF ATTACK.
- BATTLEFIELD –> KOB and SEVER THE ANGLE when driving to the basket.
- CONTROL –> Always finish off two feet in the paint in traffic.
- SKILLS REVIEWED:
- 1-ON-1 ATTACK (OFF THE CLOSEOUT)
- SKILLS REVIEWED:
- MAKE A QUICK DECISION –> Make your decision within ONE SECOND while the defense is at a DISADVANTAGE & live with the results.
- BE SHOT-READY –> Use the peek and the threat to shoot to put the most pressure on the closeout defender.
- THREE- DRIBBLE MAX –> Be efficient with your drives.

- 3-ON-3 ATTACK

- 1-ON- 1 ATTACK –> Attack within ONE SECOND and ONE DRIBBLE
- DRIVE GAME–> PUSH-PULL and SPACE when you do not have the ball.
- KICKOUT & GET OUT–> Once you pass the ball, make sure you get out of the paint quickly.
- GET DANGEROUS –> If you do not have the ball, SPACE and get into a position to be shot-ready on the catch.
- MULTIPLE ATTACKS –> Work together to attack the defense more than once until you get the shot you want.
- ENGAGE 2 BUT DON’T GET MARRIED –> Make sure you pass the ball without over driving.
- CHEST & SHOULDER READS –> Drive to score when you read SHOULDER. PASS when you read CHEST on the LINE OF ATTACK.
